Infrastructure development in Puncak Borneo continues to progress: Dawos

PUNCAK BORNEO: The infrastructure development in the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency continued to progress further, said Deputy Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit.

He said since he was elected as Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament, several development projects such as roads, electricity and clean water for the convenience of the people, have been established in the constituency.

"I'm not interested in playing politics. As a people's representative my focus is to work for the people and the country," he said when officiating the Back to School programme organised by the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) at Teng Bukap multipurpose hall here today.

A total of 300 students from six primary schools in the Puncak Borneo constituency namely Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pangkalan Kuud, SK St. Peter Simpok, SK Pesang Begu, SK Sira Krian, SK Gayu and SK Subang, received a complete set of school uniform with shoes, socks and school bags with a total cost of RM60,000.

Meanwhile, Dawos reminded the parents to pay attention to their children's education, as it would help them change and improve their living standards.

He said the government was always paying attention to the education of young people by providing free education in primary and secondary schools, as well as scholarships and educational loans at higher education level.

Meanwhile, TNB General Manager (Public Relations and Internal Affairs) Datuk Omar Sidek in his speech said the Back to School programme was a TNB social responsibility initiative, to provide assistance to the less fortunate.

He said this was the third time TNB organised this community-based programme for the Puncak Borneo community.

"Although TNB has no direct operation in Sarawak, we are committed to carry out charity efforts in Sarawak," he said.

Last year, 4,800 students nationwide had enjoyed such assistance from TNB involving an expenditure of RM1.2 million and this year a total of 10,000 students received assistance worth RM2 million, he said. — Bernama
