Bangla daily Prothom Alo yesterday conferred “Prothom Alo Barsho Shera Boi 1423” (best book of the year) award on two authors at a ceremony in the capital's Bangla Academy.
Mohammad Rafiq received the award for his poetry book “Manab Padabali” in creative category while Dr Begum Akhter Kamal received it for her research book “Rabindranather Brahmabhabna” in perspective category.
Hasan Azizul Haque, who was also a member of the panel of juries, handed over a crest along with a Tk 1,00,000-cheque to each award recipient.
Mohammad Rafiq in his reaction during the ceremony said the prize awarded to him is an affirmation of his capacity in entertaining readers.
Dr Begum Akhter Kamal, a professor of Bangla Department at Dhaka University, described how she carried out her research on Rabindranath.
Other members of the jury panel -- Syed Manzoorul Islam, Selina Hossain, Dr Khaliquzzaman M Elias and Wasi Ahmed -- were also present in the programme.
Prothom Alo has been giving the award to writers since 2004 (1410 in Bengali calendar).
