Yante Maten had 26 points and 11 rebounds, Rayshaun Hammonds scored 13 points and Georgia cruised to an easy 65-46 victory over Alabama on Saturday.

Stegeman Coliseum hosted a rare sellout of 10,000-plus, with many Bulldog fans getting in some early cheering before Georgia and Alabama play for college football's national championship Monday in Atlanta. The atmosphere was charged, though it likely would've been louder with the outcome not decided so early.

In a matchup of the Southeastern Conference's two leading scorers, Maten used his size, length and speed to make the game tough on Alabama, while Crimson Tide freshman Collin Sexton scored 23 points but couldn't get the rest of his team involved on offense.

Georgia (11-3, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) has won four of five. The Crimson Tide (9-6, 1-2) has dropped two straight and three of four.

Alabama missed 40 of 57 shots from the field and got just three points from John Petty, twice named SEC freshman of the week. He is just two for his last 14 and has scored only five points in his last two games.

Maten, too big and fast for the Tide to successfully defend, flashed his skills all over the floor. In the first half he had a putback dunk to put the Bulldogs up 19-10, hit a 3 to make it 25-15 and then knocked down a straightaway 3 to push the lead to 30-17.

He had a two-handed jam early in the second half to give the Bulldogs a 20-point lead, followed by a right-handed dunk to make it 50-28. He hustled down to bat an Alabama fast-break pass and preserve a 19-point lead at the 14-minute mark.

BIG PICTURE

Alabama: Struggled all afternoon to get open looks and had no answer inside while getting outrebounded 49-31. Tide coach Avery Johnson deployed a full-court press in the second half, trying to force turnovers and quick layups, but his team never got closer than 16 points in the last 14 minutes.

Georgia: Turtle Jackson began the game averaging 10.8 points, second-best on the team, but scored just one point. He went 0 for 8 from the field, all on 3-point attempts.

LONG WAY TO GO

Georgia has won five of the last six matchups, but has a 52-94 record in the series. Alabama is still one game over .500 in Athens with 32 victories.

NO HELP AT CHARITY STRIPE

The Tide ranked as one of the nation's worst in free throws through their first nine games, hitting just 63 percent. Alabama improved to 81 percent over its next five games, but it didn't take the ball to the rim enough against Georgia to make a difference. The Tide were 8 for 11 from the foul line.
