LAKELAND — An 18-year-old Lakeland man died Friday night when he was struck while walking westbound along Knight Station Road, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Charles Goode was walking in the 3600 block of the roadway at 10:22 p.m. when he was struck by a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Rodney Schmitz, 36, of Lakeland, who also was traveling westbound.

Evidence at the scene revealed that Goode was walking with his back to oncoming traffic. Paramedics reported that he died at the scene.

Deputies are continuing their investigation into the accident.
