Local author Darlene Marshall will read from her book, The Bride and the Buccaneer, on Sunday, Jan. 21, as part of the Alachua County Library District's Local Author Series.
The event will be 2:30 p.m. at Headquarters Library. Marshall writes award-winning historical romance, mostly about pirates, privateers, smugglers and the occasional possum. She lives in North Central Florida.
The series will continue Feb. 18, 2:30 p.m., when Robert Crow will discuss Nudge & Boost for Better Living: A Semi-Autobiographical Novel on Using the ABCs of Human Behavior. In the book, Frasier and friends explore uses of principles of human behavior to improve people’s lives. Their discussions of successes for better living and tools called nudge and boost are described in engaging stories.
On March 17, 2:30 p.m. Wendy Thornton will explore the past 50 years of music in the Sounding The Depths with humorous essays and remembrances. Thornton’s mystery, Bear-Trapped: In a Trashy Hollywood Novel, was published in 2015. She was nominated for a Pushcart Prize, and has been Editor’s Pick on Salon.com multiple times. Her work is published in England, Ireland, Scotland, Australia and India. She was the organizer and first president of the Writers Alliance of Gainesville.
On April 21, 2:30 p.m., Daniel Blumberg will talk about his second published book, The Rise and Fall of Mechanikalle, and what happens when a 16-year old decides to create her own power armor suit to finally obtain super powers. Blumberg has lived in this area since 1980 and enjoys fantasy and sci-fi.
This series concludes on May 12, 2:30 p.m., with K.E. Mullins. She will talk about her current novel, In the Company of Strangers. It follows Detective Anita Jones’ pursuit of the mastermind of a criminal operation. Mullins has published a book of poetry, Thinking Aloud: Dimensions of Free-Verse, and another novel. She has a MBA from National University and a degree the University of Central Florida, and currently works as a Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps instructor in Gainesville.
