A Lafourche Parish councilman is alleging the recently unveiled Bayou Blue Water Park was built without the necessary permits.
The Lafourche Parish Council will discuss a potential investigation of the issue during its regular meeting Tuesday night.
Councilman Jerry Jones is sponsoring a resolution that would ask the Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s Office to investigate the park being built without permits and who authorized the contractor to proceed without coming before the council.
The park was scheduled to open in March 2017 but was delayed while contractors waited for engineering and permits, Councilman James Bourgeois said in a November interview.
The $400,000 park was unveiled to the public in November and is expected to open in the spring. Located at 200 Mazerac St., the park is handicap-accessible and features a variety of fountains, artificial trees and a swamp mural.
Jones is also sponsoring a resolution to outline the procedures for creating budget amendments and de-obligating money from projects.
Last month, the Council overturned Parish President Jimmy Cantrelle’s veto of more than 200 budget amendments, a process that took almost three hours.
Tuesday’s meeting will take place at 5 p.m. in the council chambers at the Mathews Government Complex, 4876 La. 1.
