Dr. Varghese inducted into the FLARE Program

Joseph Smotherman, Pharm. D., Associate Administrator of Graduate Medical Education at White River Medical Center (WRMC), recently announced the selection of Ron Varghese, M.D. to the Future Leaders Advancing Research in Endocrinology (FLARE) program, class of 2018.  Dr. Varghese is an Internal Medicine Resident at WRMC.

The FLARE program provides leadership development and hands-on training opportunities to science and clinical research traineeswith demonstrated achievement in endocrine research from underrepresented minority communities.  The program is supported by a grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive Kidney Diseases. Dr. Varghese will travel to San Diego, California to participate in workshops on topics from grant writing to laboratory management.

“The Graduate Medical Education (GME) Team is proud to have Dr. Varghese as an Internal Medicine Resident at White River Medical Center,” said Smotherman.  “He is an excellent doctor and has achieved so much in his first year as a resident.”

Dr. Varghese received his medical degree from the Medical College Thiruvananthapuram.   He recently received a clinical presentation award at the 2017 Arkansas Chapter Scientific Meeting of ACP (American College of Physicians).  His presentation was entitled A Patient with Excessive Fatigue, Neutropenia, Anemia, and Positive Rheumatoid Factor.  He placed third in the Oral Clinical Vignette Category. 

Dr. Varghese is a member of the first Internal Medicine Resident Class at WRMC. As a part of the Residency Program, Dr. Varghese cares for patients hospitalized at WRMC and provides outpatient care at the Internal Medicine Continuity Clinic at The Diagnostic Clinic at WRMC (formerly White River Diagnostic Clinic). 

WRMC is a 224-bed regional referral center and the flagship facility of White River Health System (WRHS). WRHS is a not-for-profit healthcare system serving residents throughout North Central Arkansas.  The system includes hospitals, outpatient facilities, primary care and specialty physician office practices, and senior life centers.  WRHS is a member of the Premier Alliance, the American Hospital Association, and the Arkansas Hospital Association and licensed by the Arkansas Department of Health.
