(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Over 5.51 million travellers breezed through travel procedures at the Dubai Airports in 2017 as they used the 122 smart gates installed at DXB, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs-Dubai (GDRFA-Dubai) said.

The majority of the smart gate transactions were arrivals, with 3.1 million recorded.

In 2017, Dubai also introduced the UAE Wallet, an app which contains all the passport details and smart gate card data of the traveller. The smart wallet, which is available to download for free on iTunes and Google Play, was launched in May last year and has resulted in smoother traveller flow through various check-points at the airport as it eliminates the need for physical identification documents for travellers going in and out of Dubai.

The app was downloaded over 75,000 times last year.
