The final session of the day barely changed the balance of the game in England’s favour. After already losing two early wickets of Mark Stoneman and Alastair Cook before Tea, England needed skipper Joe Root and James Vince to survive in the middle. With temperatures soaring up to 47 degrees, the hottest day in Sydney, Australian seamers were bound to have a tough time and it was England’s chance to take control of the match. But the two could not stitch a really strong partnership and Vince became a victim to Hazlewood. Dawid Malan also got out on 5 and the visitors found themselves in serious trouble, losing 4 wickets at a score of 68. Wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow and skipper Joe Root ensured the visitors do not lose any more wickets in the day and took England to 93/4 at stumps, trailing by 210 runs.
