Burroughs to be inducted into NJCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame

Legendary Cowley College baseball coach Dave Burroughs has accomplished many things during his 30-year career as coach of the Tigers. He has won numerous conference and region titles and guided the Tiger baseball team to back-to-back JUCO World Series titles during the 1997 and 1998 seasons. He has yet to slow down after helping the Tigers to a third place finish at the 2017 JUCO World Series. Recognized for his success, Burroughs was recently notified he was selected for induction into the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame and will be inducted with the Class of 2018 at the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, CO.

Burroughs was honored to receive word of his pending induction and was quick to list the numerous people that have played a part in his success.

“Like they say, you never get anywhere by yourself,” Burroughs said. “I have had help from a lot of people through the years, and had a lot of people that shared the same vision I did.”
Burroughs has led the Tigers to 17 Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division titles in the past 23 seasons, and eight trips to the Junior College World Series in the past 21 seasons, including back-to-back trips to the World Series in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He was named the Jayhawk East coach of the Year in 2017 and has been named the Jayhawk East Coach of the Year seven of the last 11 seasons.

The Ketchum, Okla., native has guided the Tigers to some impressive seasons as Cowley has won seven of the last 11 Jayhawk East titles and has won at least 33 games in each of the last 25 seasons, including a school-record tying 54 wins during the 2015 season.
And yet another amazing statistic: Since 1992, Burroughs has led the Tigers to the Eastern Sub-Regional championship Saturdayevery year but one. He has amassed 1,209 wins as coach of the Tigers.

His brother, Darren, joined the Tiger coaching staff as an assistant in 1990 and has been by his side ever since.

From the fall of 1982 to the spring of 1984, Burroughs served as assistant coach at Bacone College in Oklahoma. And from 1985-86, he was an assistant at Northeastern State at Tahlequah. He left baseball for a year prior to coming to Cowley in 1988.

“I fell in love with Cowley shortly after coming here and never really wanted to go anywhere else,” Burroughs said. “I have been fortunate to work at a really good institution.”

Burroughs, along with the Hall of Fame Class of 2018, will be inducted at the JUCO World Series Banquet held Friday, May 25in Grand Junction, CO.
