HINESBURG, Vt. (WCAX) Firefighters in Hinesburg battled a morning blaze in subzero temperatures.

Crews were called to a burning apartment garage on North Road around 11 a.m. Friday. The fire had dramatically spread by the time they got on scene, but they were able to prevent it from spreading to a nearby home.
The property owners, who lived inside the apartment, tell Channel 3 News that five family pets were lost.
"The garage was engulfed, and that's where all of our stuff is. My three dogs and two cats are gone, but everybody's okay," said homeowner Beth Hathaway.
"It's not cold enough yet where we had any lines freeze up, but if you let them sit too long it will. Equipment doesn't work well, men don't work well -- it's the cold," said Hinesburg Asst. Fire Chief David Estey.
The structure was completely lost. A wood stove malfunction may have led to the fire.
