If you find yourself at Cape Town’s largest shopping mall, there’s a new eatery waiting for you to explore.
Brocka at Canal Walk is a bold new restaurant that promises you’ll “Taste Urban”
The menu is jam packed with meat and burgers that’s grilled or barbecued and has a signature sauce. The food is big, bold and bistro style so if you’re very hungry you won’t be dissapointed, the portions are above average.
Brocka is situated in a space in the mall that was previously occupied by a big fast food chain, so it’s quite refreshing to have an eaterie there which is unique and one of a kind.
The decor is very industrial and tries a bit too hard to be industrial-chic, from the wooden beams to the make-shift kitchen in a container.
The bright lights and construction-bling will either lure you in or put you off from entering. It’s definitely worth a visit though, especially if you have the entire family with you or if you’re a group of friends in the mall.
There is a small breakfast menu, and in Mexican-inspired food features across the menu.
But the focus is on the burgers and the meat, and rightly so. The beefiness is near perfect and the milkshakes are a very good as well.
Brocka uses hand pressed beef for their burgers which is all part of the unique burger meals they serve. Also worth a nibble is the rib-licious burger which is pulled rib, deep fried onion rings and mushroom sauce.
The burgers were the stand out for me but of course there are chicken wings and ribs on the menu as well, all basted in the Brocka signature sauce.
The shakes are close to extra large and the flavours to look out for are milk tart, candy land and peppermint decadent.
If waffles are not too much for you for dessert and you love sweet treats then look no further than the Caramel Crave waffle, which has salted caramel, banana and caramel popcorn.
Brocka is a great alternative to the commercial fast food chains in Canal Walk. The restaurant opened at the beginning of December so the festive season will be a good indicator of whether shoppers have a taste for what they’re serving.
