Tickets still on sale for mixed martial arts event

Fists will be flying next week in downtown Leavenworth.

Tickets are still on sale for a Universal Combat League fight card Jan. 13 in the Riverfront Community Center gymnasium.

John Kiser, promoter of the event, said he has sold approximately 500 tickets in advance. He said the Riverfront Community Center gymnasium has a capacity of 1,000 people.

General admission tickets to the mixed martial arts event are $25. Reserved seating tickets cost $40 while VIP tickets go for $50. Cageside tickets cost $100.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.cagetix.com/universal

Tickets also can be purchased at Advantage Printing, VFW Post 56, Candle Queen Candles, Kaaz Construction and Black Card Tattoo. Tickets can also be purchased at the door on the night of the event.

Military, law enforcement, firefighters and first responders can purchase discounted tickets.

Kiser said several local fighters will compete against opponents from all over the Midwest.

“There’s a local guy in every fight,” Kiser said.

Kiser said the fight card will include approximately 12 bouts. The action begins at 7 p.m.

The fighters will square off in octagon-shaped ring. Each bout will consist of three, three-minute rounds.

The fighters will use boxing, kick boxing, wrestling and other martial arts skills.

Kiser said sponsorship packages have been selling well.

“The sponsors are hammering me. That’s a good thing,” he said.

He said the event has attracted approximately 20 sponsors, and more are welcome.

Depending on how successful the initial show turns out to be, Kiser has tentative plans to host more mixed martial arts bouts in Leavenworth. Other events are planned in May and September.

Kiser hopes the fights will lead to an increased interest in mixed martial arts. He has plans to start a training program in Leavenworth.
