Man Utd news: Mark Schwarzer claims Mourinho's comments were 'below the belt'

JOSE MOURINHO has been criticised over his remarks towards Antonio Conte after he brought up the match-fixing scandal which surrounded the Chelsea boss while he was in Italy.

took aim at the Chelsea boss after Manchester United beat Derby 2-0 in last night's FA Cup match at Old Trafford.

Conte had taken a dig at the Manchester United boss earlier in the day claiming Mourinho was suffering from dementia.

Speaking on BBC’s Football Focus, former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer claimed Mourinho’s comments were “below the belt”.

He said: “I think it’s getting a little bit below the belt now.

“Obviously there are a lot of accusations flying about both ways, they are trying to upset each other, particularly Jose Mourinho we all know what he is like.

“He likes to upset opposing managers, his direct competition, and hopefully that will effect their teams' performances as well.

“I think that last comment was probably a little too low.”

was banned for four months while in charge of Juventus for failing to report alleged match-fixing while in charge of Siena.

During his press conference after the game yesterday, Mourinho said: “I don't blame him. The press should apologise to me and him.

“Question completely wrong and because of that, out of control reaction.

“I was speaking about myself. You said Mourinho said you behaved as a clown. I was speaking about myself.

“I don't need Chelsea manager to say I made mistakes in past and will in future. What I will say is I will never be banned for match-fixing.”

Conte served a four-month ban before securing the Italy job. During his time as Italy manager he was cleared in full.

Speaking after the ruling was read out, one of Conte’s lawyers, Francesco Arata said: “It was a full acquittal. What matters is that for him, this story is over.

“We talked to Conte on the phone and he was very happy.”
