Indore: Steering failure the reason; bus driver booked for negligence

Indore: The tragic accident of DPS school bus on Bypass Road on Friday evening left one side of the road completely blocked creating heavy traffic jam for more than half-an-hour on the stretch. In order to resume the traffic flow police had to divert traffic movement of one side of the road to the service lane for more than an hour, till the mangled remains of the school bus was removed from the road with the help of crane to remove blockade.

After the collision, the front portion of the bus was badly damaged and its oil tank also leaked due spreading the inflammable oil on the road. Though the police along with local residents cleared the road by themselves, large container trucks and other heavy vehicles were asked to ply through the service lane, making the jam further hard to negotiate.

Eyewitness Harsh Solanki said that speed of the bus was very high and thus, it jumped divider and rammed a truck coming from opposite side, which proves negligence on the part of the bus driver. However, police told that the failure of the steering wheel of the school bus was the reason behind the accident. Investigation into the case is underway, said police.

Administrative officer Shringar Shrivastav along with other officials investigated the spot and collected information from police as well as local residents about the incident. DSP (traffic) Pradeep Singh Chouhan also reached the spot and took stock of the situation. He said that the incident was said to be due to failure of steering of bus but traffic police will launch a drive against school bus drivers who drive rashly and violate traffic rules.

Kanadiya police station in charge ML Chouhan said that a case under section 304 of the IPC has been registered against the school bus driver for his negligence. The truck was moving in his lane and the truck driver made a lot of efforts to escape the bus.
