The following are excerpts from the Stow police log from Monday, Dec. 18, to Sunday, Dec. 31. The log is public record and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.
Monday, Dec. 18
3:43 p.m.: A caller on Indian Ridge Road reported a suspicious encounter with a teenage girl who walked onto her property and then into the woods.
4:10 p.m.: A walk-in reported finding a shell casing in his home while cleaning. State police bomb squad responded and took possession of the shell casing.
5:30 p.m.: A caller reported a cat hit on Edson Street.
10 p.m.: Multiple callers reported black ice and a multi-car accident on Route 117 near the Bolton line.
10:16 p.m.: A vehicle was reported on a stone wall on Great Road.
10:26 p.m.: A vehicle was reported off the road on Great Road.
Tuesday, Dec. 19
12:52 a.m.: Police checked on a suspicious vehicle at Citizen Savings Bank on Great Road. The vehicle, which was left running with no one around, belonged to cleaners who were just closing up.
2:56 p.m.: A loose black Lab with no tags was reported on a Whitman Street property.
6:47 p.m.: A caller on Hickory Lane reported finding a cat on his property.
Wednesday, Dec. 20
5:15 p.m.: A deer/vehicle collision was reported on Crescent Street in Hudson, with damage to the vehicle. The driver stated the deer walked away. The driver believed he was in Stow, but was actually in Hudson. Police there were notified.
9:43 p.m.: A caller on Route 495 reported a metal pipe fell from a truck. The caller believed she was in Stow but was actually in Danvers. Police there were notified.
9:59 p.m.: A Gleasondale Road resident reported her doorbell rang, but there was no one at the door. An officer found the doorbell was malfunctioning because of electrical work done in the home that day.
Thursday, Dec. 21
12:03 a.m.: Police checked on a suspicious vehicle at Stow Acres Country Club on Randall Road. One arrest was made for driving under the influence. Stow police contacted other departments to see if any accidents or hit-and-runs were reported there; no related accidents were reported.
7:08 a.m.: A deer/vehicle collision was reported on Great Road. The vehicle sustained some damage.
9:29 a.m.: A caller reported a phone scam. The caller stated a party claiming to represent state police called asking for money to be donated to that association for a fundraiser. The calling party called state police, who advised her to file a report with local police because state police don’t make fundraising phone calls.
3:04 p.m.: A caller reported a scam telephone call stating she was selected to win a prize. The caller reported she hung up and did not provide any information. The caller was advised.
4:42 p.m.: Two boys with three dogs were reported out on the ice on Lake Boon near North Shore Drive. The reporting party was concerned the ice was too thin. The area search was negative.
6:25 p.m.: A caller reported being side-swiped by a vehicle on Sudbury Road, and that the caller was following that vehicle into Stow. Hudson police stopped the other vehicle.
Friday, Dec. 22
11:16 a.m.: A motor vehicle accident was reported with injury at Great and Packard roads. At least one party was transported to Emerson.
3:20 p.m.: A caller on Boxboro Road reported a green dirt bike rode from the Flagg Hill area across his property toward Minute Man Air Field then back toward Flagg Hill. The area search was negative.
4:24 p.m.: A caller reported being rear-ended earlier in front of Russell’s Convenience Store on Great Road. The caller was inquiring about making an accident report. Police advised no accident report could be made at that time.
5:09 p.m.: A walk-in requested a report for an accident he was involved in earlier. The party was spoken to and given the proper paperwork.
9:55 p.m.: A truck was reported spinning its tires and doing doughnuts on Wildlife Way. The area search was negative.
Saturday, Dec. 23
12:01 p.m.: A caller reported the road was very icy and that he almost went off the road on Boxboro Road heading toward the airport. An officer on the scene reported most of the road needed treatment. The highway department was notified and responded.
1:59 p.m.: A large tree branch was reported blocking traffic on Whitman Street.
2:57 p.m.: Several callers reported a car crashed into a pole near Kids-a-Lot on Red Acre Road.
5:14 p.m.: A caller reported a deer on the side of Taylor Road that had been hit by a car. An officer responding reported the deer was dead.
7:25 p.m.: A large tree limb was reported blocking most of the road on Walcott Street. An officer was able to move several limbs, and the highway department was requested.
7:28 p.m.: A fallen tree was reported blocking the Sawmill Road, with several other trees in the neighborhood heavy with ice and leaning over the roadway.
7:38 p.m.: A caller reported a large tree limb down on Crescent Street. An officer was able to move the limb to the side of the road.
9:38 p.m.: A large branch was reported in the road on Red Acre Road. The branch was moved to the side of the road.
9:41 p.m.: A large tree was reported across the road on Sudbury Road. Hudson Light and Power was requested for a large limb on wires. The limb was removed.
10:06 P.M.: A Hale Road resident reported hearing a loud bang and losing power. The resident reported her neighbors appeared to have power. Hudson Light and Power knew about the outage, and the resident was advised.
Sunday, Dec. 24
8:51 a.m.: Taylor Road was reported very slick with ice.
11:03 a.m.: Slippery road conditions were reported on Gates Lane.
8:03 p.m.: A caller at the Plantation Apartments on Johnston Way reported hearing a dog crying for some time. The caller was concerned for the dog’s well-being. The dog was located and brought into its home on Great Road.
Monday, Dec. 25
9:48 a.m.: A car was reported off the road at Harvard and Hiley Brook roads. The area search was negative.
2:37 p.m.: A large 25-foot tree limb was reported on the electrical wire coming from the street to the garage at the conservation building on West Acton Road. Hudson Light and Power was notified.
Tuesday, Dec. 26
11:18 a.m.: A speeding Kane Perkins truck was reported on Boxboro Road. The driver was located and advised.
11:58 a.m.: Debris was reported in the road at Great and Delaney roads. The items in question were boxes of tiles, which were actually in Bolton. Bolton DPW was notified and cleaned the debris.
3:16 p.m.: A motor vehicle accident was reported with injury on Great Road. At least one injured party was transported to Emerson.
4:02 p.m.: A walk-in asked to speak with an officer about unwanted contact by a man.
11:18 p.m.: Police checking on a suspicious person on Boxboro Road found everything OK.
Wednesday, Dec. 27
5:55 a.m.: A deer/vehicle collision was reported at Great and Hiley Brook roads.
10:41 p.m.: Suspicious activity was reported at Sudbury and Hallock’s Point road.
Thursday, Dec. 28
8:28 a.m.: A large black dog was reported running back and forth across Hudson Road near Ken’s Liquor Store. The area search was negative.
2:46 p.m.: A caller reported a man without a shirt walking a dog on Edgehill Road. The area search was negative.
Friday, Dec. 29
8:29 a.m.: A stow resident asked what the current outside temperature was. The party was advised that as of the time of her request, it was “a balmy 3 degrees.”
3:35 p.m.: An Enterprise truck/van was reported sitting in the roadway and not moving at Randall Road and Cross Street. Police located the vehicle on Gleasondale Road. The driver stated he was tired and had stopped to stretch outside of the vehicle. The driver stated he was feeling better, and no impairment was noted.
Saturday, Dec. 30
12:06 p.m.: A speeding SUV was reported passing a group of cars on Hudson Road heading toward Great Road.
12:23 p.m.: A caller reported someone opened a Sears credit card in his name. The caller was advised to contact all of his credit card companies and banks to make sure they are aware of the situation.
5:28 p.m.: A caller requested officers respond to Hudson Road for a person harassing the mechanics. All parties were spoken to in this verbal argument. The person in question was advised to stay away from the premises until all paperwork “regarding lease etc” was in hand.
Sunday, Dec. 31
12:02 a.m.: Suspicious activity was reported at Bank of America on Great Road.
12:10 p.m.: A caller reported her 3-year-old son and keys were locked in her car. Entry was gained.
5:30 p.m.: A deer/vehicle collision was reported on Red Acre Road. The deer died.
