Police: Norwich man threatened to bring gun to nursing home

NORWICH- Police arrested a Norwich man Wednesday for threatening to bring a gun to a nursing home in Colchester, police said.

According to Norwich Police Lieutenant Jonathan Ley, John Furrey, 70, of 86 Briar Lane, encountered an employee of a Colchester nursing home while shopping at the Norwich Walmart on Wednesday afternoon. Ley said Furrey expressed displeasure with the level of care a family member was receiving at the center, and threatened to bring a gun to the facility.

The employee reported the threat to police after the incident.

Ley said Furrey went to Harrington Court Nursing Home several hours later, but did not have any weapons. Furrey was arrested at 6 p.m. on Wednesday for second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening. He was released on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Jan. 18.
