Laura Plummer jailed in Egypt for smuggling painkillers to her lover KNEW he was married

SHOCK claims have emerged that the boyfriend of British tourist Laura Plummer, who was jailed for three years after she was caught smuggling 290 Tramadol pills, is MARRIED with children.

It has been claimed she has even met his wife in a bizarre long-distance love triangle.

The shop assistant met Omar Saad, a lifeguard, when on holiday in Sharm el Sheik in 2014 and they “fell in love”.

She has frequently travelled back to spend time wth her lover over the last three years.

The Egyptian was suffering from chronic backpain after a car accident and asked his devoted lover to bring him painkillers from England.

Airport security caught Miss Plummer with almost 300 opioid Tramadol tablets in her suitcase.

If not prescribed by a medical professional, the drug is strictly prohibited in Egypt and its supply can be punishable by death.

Omar is four years older than her, and comes from Beni Suef, 100 miles south of Cairo.

He told the Mail: “We started talking as normal people would, but we understood our feelings and the love from the first conversation. From the first meeting it was love.

"Afterwards, she came to Egypt just for me and I took vacations so we could spend them together.”

To be able to spent time together under Egypt’s strict laws, the pair had to get an “orfi marriage”. This means they couple simply agree to be married without any legal rights.

The man proposes and the woman accepts in front of a minimum of two witnesses.

In many cases the ‘contract’ is between an Egyptian man and a foreign woman, and it allows them to stay in the same hotel room without fear of being arrested for adultery or fornication.

Miss Plummer’s family said she visited Egypt several times a year to spend time with her ‘husband’, and even met his legal wife.

It is unclear what she thought of the arrangement.

Of her arrest, Mr Saad said: “My heart is absolutely broken — I’m missing her so much. I did not want her to violate her life, and I had no idea she would bring tramadol — I would have told her: ‘Don’t bring it to Egypt.’

“I will wait for her to come out. The only problem I am worried about is whether she will be allowed back into Egypt.

“I’m wishing that she will be released and be able to come to Egypt again with no restrictions.”

Laura must wait 60 days after her conviction before she can appeal - but even then it could take ten months to be considered.
