An accused in a murder case was killed in a 'gunfight' with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Jhikargachha upazila of Jessore district early Monday.
Deceased Babu alias Palsar Babu, 30, was prime accused in a case filed for killing local Awami League activist Abbas Ali in the upazila on January 3, Jhikargachha Police Station officer in-charge Sheikh Abu Saleh Masud said.
On secret information that a group of terrorists were trading arms in Refugee Para, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area, RAB-4 Jessore Camp official Major Zia said.
Sensing presence of the team, the terrorists opened fire on RAB members, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gun-battle.
Later, Babu was found dead at the spot, the RAB official added.
A pistol, one-round bullet, magazine and domestic arms were recovered from their possessions.
Meanwhile, two RAB members also received injuries in the gunfight.
