Travis Zajac practiced fully on Saturday after leaving Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Dallas Stars when he took a Kyle Plamieri shot off the helmet late in the third period.
Zajac and Devils coach John Hynes both said the veteran center would play in Sunday's 1 p.m. game against the New York Islanders.
Following the puck to the head, Zajac went through the concussion protocol but was cleared. The shot did leave a bump and a cut on the top left of his forehead, and he needed about six stitches.
Other than that, the injury was much less scary than it looked.
"It didn't feel good," Zajac said with a smile. "But as soon as you get off, you kind of get situated, things calm down, adrenaline starts going away. It was just like any hit anywhere else."
Zajac went down on the ice before slowly skating to the bench and down the tunnel under his own power. He did not return, but he was walking around the Devils locker room after the game.
"He got hit and he recovered pretty quick from what it was," Hynes said. "Anytime you see a puck like that, it could be a little worse than it was. So happy that it was as minor as it is for as dangerous as it could have been."
The veteran forward was back centering the Devils' second line at practice at the Prudential Center in Newark, so he appears good to go for Sunday's game against the Islanders at the Barclays Center.
Here is how the Devils lined up at Saturday's practice. Hynes did not announce any lineup decisions or changes for Sunday's game in Brooklyn, other than Cory Schneider will be the starting goalie.
