Live Updates

Arsene Wenger has revealed Konstantinos Mavropanos was the first Arsenal signing done on the basis of new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat’s advice, as the manager spoke of how the club are currently adapting to a new structure and the need to find a “new balance”.

Asked whether Mislintat had identified Mavropanos, Wenger said: “yes”.

“We talk,” Wenger said on their new relationship. “We know the players. We know. It’s not that we discover, we know every single player in Europe before Sven arrived. Sometimes, in a little club in Germany, he might know somebody we might ignore.”

SPURS NEWS
Tottenham are not planning on making any signings this January but they could be about to lose one of their prize assets in Mousa Dembele.

The Daily Mail are claiming that both Inter and AC Milan want the midfielder to join the San Siro this summer, despite Spurs being desperate to keep him as they prepare to move to their new stadium next season.
CHELSEA NEWS
Antonio Conte believes Ross Barkley can become the complete player after the England international completed a £15m transfer from Everton to Chelsea on Friday.

Barkley, who saw a planned move to Stamford Bridge collapse on the final day of the summer transfer window, has signed a five-and-a-half year contract with current Premier League champions but will have to wait for his debut while he returns to match fitness following a four-month lay-off with a serious hamstring injury.

Conte was frustrated by Chelsea’s dealings in the summer transfer market and hopes any new signings arrive quickly this month.

“For sure, this is true because for me it is very important to work with the players very soon and for this reason our start to the season was poor because many players arrive in the last moment and also injured,” he said. “(Tiemoue) Bakayoko was injured as was Danny Drinkwater. Davide Zappacosta arrived in the last moment but he was lucky because he worked with me with the national team in Italy. If I have the opportunity to work soon with the new players it will be better for my team and the new players so they can adapt in our idea of football.”

LIVERPOOL NEWS
Among the potential replacements for Liverpool is Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez.

The Independent revealed on Friday that the former PFA Player of the Year was one of two replacements being considered – alongside Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, although he would come at a far higher price than his Algerian counterpart.

French outlet L’Equipe are now claiming that contact has been made between the Reds and Leicester, suggesting Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona is all but done.
LIVERPOOL NEWS
Philippe Coutinho’s move from Liverpool to Barcelona seems something of an inevitability now this month but the La Liga side may have to fork out a bit more cash yet.

The Daily Mail are claiming that the Reds won’t let their prize asset move for anything less than £145m, after previous reports claimed the deal could be done for around £130m.
Good morning and welcome to The Independent's live transfer news for Saturday 6th January!
