Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad has been sentenced to 3 and half years in jail in a fodder scam case. In addition, he has also been slapped Rs 5 lakh fine by the Ranchi court.

Lalu heard the sentencing from jail via video conferencing. His son Tejashwi Yadav said that they will approach the high court and also apply for bail after studying the sentence.

After the verdict, Lalu's son, Tejashwi charged Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the BJP with "conspiring against Lalu, whose immense mass appeal and willingness to courageously take on communal forces have always left his detractors insecure".

To which, JDU leader KC Tyagi said, "His accusations that JDU or BJP played him are false and baseless."

He further added, "Never thought RJD would turn court's verdict into politics of religion."
