Who should Rutgers hire as offensive coordinator? (POLL)

Make sure you know your Fitch from your Fisch and your Canada from your Carty.

The Rutgers offensive coordinator search is winding down and a final decision is expected within the next week.

So who is it going to be?

It's a critical hire for Rutgers coach Chris Ash, whose team showed improvement in going from two wins in Year 1 to four in Year 2. Special teams made big strides, the defense took a step forward and the offense ... remains anchored to the bottom of the national statistics.

5 things next Rutgers OC must fix

Rutgers is looking for its ninth offensive coordinator in nine years and its third in three years under Ash. Whoever is hired will face instant questions about continuity, quarterbacks and style.

"Does he have leadership? Does he have confidence? Does he have character? Can he connect with the players? Can he develop the quarterbacks? And can he put together the whole offense?" Ash said last month when asked to profile his ideal hire.

"The big picture and coach multiple positions, because it is not just about coaching the players, but it's helping coach coaches also on how to get better. And that's what we're looking for."

Ash has kept a tight lid on his search, but NJ Advance Media's reporting has narrowed the search to six possible candidates: New Hampshire's Ryan Carty, Louisiana Tech's Todd Fitch, Matt Canada formerly of LSU, Jedd Fisch formerly of UCLA, San Diego Chargers tight ends coach John McNulty and Georgia State's Travis Trickett.

There's always the possibility that a darkhorse could still emerge. After all, no one would have initially predicted Bill Belichick as an option for the Giants, right?

That list covers coordinators with deep New Jersey ties and no New Jersey ties, with Power Five conference experience and only FCS experience. The polar opposites go on and on.
