The Etowah County Arson Task Force and Etowah County Sheriff’s investigators are looking into a recent house fire, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
Tina Johnson, who lives at the residence with her husband and grandson, was one of the women who came forward in the weeks leading up the U.S. Senate special election with allegations against Republican candidate Roy Moore. She said she went to Moore’s office on a legal matter in the 1990s, and Moore grabbed her backside as she was leaving.
According to the sheriff’s office, authorities so far don’t think the fire is related in any way to Moore or the allegations Johnson made against him.
State Fire Marshal Ray Cumby said evidence from the blaze has been sent to the forensics lab.
No one was home when the fire was discovered about 8 a.m. Wednesday. The home was a complete loss.
ECSO Director of Communications Natalie Barton said investigators are speaking to a person in interest in the case. No warrants have been obtained.
