NORTH Yorkshire Police will be holding a free property marking session in York tomorrow.

The first post-Christmas property marking event will take place at Morrisons supermarket in Foss Islands Road between 10am and 2pm on Sunday, and follows the Keeping Safe At Christmas roadshows.

Volunteers and police officers will use their Dot Peen system to mark items including phones, tablets, computers, bikes or tools with unique numbers, which will then be logged on a national database. If the items are stolen and recovered, the owner can be easily identified.

Inspector Lee Pointon said: “This is an ideal opportunity to bring along your Christmas presents and get them security marked. It’s a free service that provides added security to help deter thieves and will ensure any goods that are recovered by the police can be reunited with their rightful owner.”
