Janet K. Fisher, 58, of Center Junction, Iowa, died Jan. 4, 2018, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, Iowa, where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8. Burial will be in Green Center Cemetery, Morley, Iowa.
Janet was born Oct. 9, 1959, in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Ethel (Grieser) Fisher. She graduated from Lincoln Community Schools, Stanwood, Iowa, in 1978. She farmed with her parents and later purchased her own farm where she raised Charolais cattle, Holstein dairy cows, hogs and a variety of crops. She also worked on the Gary Zumbach farms and the Virg and Judy McNamara farms. For a brief time, she worked at Monsanto Seed Corn. For 20 years, Janet worked at Cascade Forestry, where she planted seedling trees, nut seeded, hand-planted trees for customers, graded trees, weeded, plowed and disked fields, and field inventoried nursery trees. She also was a warehouse supervisor and manager.
She loved her parents' 1884 Sunnyslope Century Farm. She took great interest in the history of the farm and her family's ancestry. She was very close to her Grandma Grieser, who lived with them for nine years. Janet was like her dad's shadow and often was found following him around the farm. She and her brothers were given chores around the farm to learn dependability and responsibility.
She was a huge Iowa Hawkeyes, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Green Bay Packers, New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs fan. She had great interest in girls' six-on-six basketball and loved playing it. She and her brothers played football, baseball and basketball in their spare time. She enjoyed country music, especially Reba McEntire. She was fond of watching Westerns, those with John Wayne particularly.
She loved farming and riding horses, especially her Quarter Horse, Sweetie. Janet was very proud of her 1997 Ford F250 4x4 pickup and her John Deere 4020 and 620 tractors, which was the first tractor her father taught her how to drive. She enjoyed attending her nephews' sporting events. She was fond of spending time on the Pitzer Ranch and the Two Eyed Jack Quarter Horse production sales in Ericson, Neb., Iowa Charolais Beef Sales and visiting her grandmother, aunts and uncles in Valentine, Neb. She called the Nebraska Sandhills "God's own cattle country" and said the people there were always so friendly and polite.
She is survived by her brothers, Kevin (Mollie) Fisher, Mechanicsville, Iowa, and Kelvin (Kim) Fisher, Walcott, Iowa; nephews, John Fisher and Nick Fisher, both of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a stepnephew, Andy Wagner, Chicago, Ill.; a stepniece, Stephanie Wagner, Lisbon, Iowa; a special aunt, Isa Pavelka, Crookston, Neb.; and a special cousin, Terri Lawless, Independence, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Elmer and Getty Grieser and George and Bessie Fisher; a special uncle, Bud Pavelka; and a special aunt, Mary Fisher.
