Saturday 6 December

Barcelona transfer exodus

22.25: Barcelona are getting ready for a mass exodus in January to free up funds following the £142m arrival of Philippe Coutinho.

Spanish outlet Don Balon claim there is a long list of players preparing to leave the Nou Camp in January.

Javier Mascherano is the most high-profile player to be leaving with a big-money move to China in the pipeline.

And also on the ‘for sale’ list are midfield trio Gerard Deulofeu, Andre Gomes and Arda Turan - all of whom are out of favour with Ernesto Valverde.

Coutinho deal confirmed

20.15: Barcelona and Liverpool have confirmed they have reached an agreement for Philippe Coutinho.

"Liverpool FC can confirm Philippe Coutinho will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona, subject to medical and agreement of personal terms," a satement read on Liverpool's website.

“The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities to conclude the transfer immediately.”

Clarke-Salter loan deal

18.15: Sunderland have reportedly reached an agreement with Chelsea to loan defender Jake Clarke-Salter until the end of the season.

“Sunderland will finalise a loan deal for defender Jake Clarke-Salter over the weekend, after he’s featured for Chelsea at Norwich tonight,” Sky reporter Keith Downie tweeted.

“The 20-year-old will be Chris Coleman’s first signing. Jake Clarke-Salter is a centre back.

“He’s made two first team appearances for Chelsea, with John Terry saying he’s good enough to one day become a first team regular.

“Will sign on loan with Sunderland until the summer.”

Ronaldo’s future discussed by Zidane

17.05: Zinedine Zidane took questions on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo this afternoon.

Ronaldo was linked with a move to PSG earlier this week but Zidane says that Real Madrid would not be the same if he left.

"I can’t imagine a Real Madrid without Cristiano, not at all,” Zidane said.

"He’s a Madrid player and he wants to finish his career here.

“I don’t see him playing anywhere else."

Gunners stars must make intentions clear

15.30: Arsenal stars must tell Arsene Wenger they want to leave the club if they are not a regular in his first-team squad, says former Gunner Charlie Nicholas.

Nicholas says it is down to the the likes of Theo Walcott to make the decision to leave and make Wenger aware of his intentions.

“You have to stand up for your own principles somewhere along the line,” he said on Sky Sports.

“This man, you hear them often say that ‘he’s been a father-figure to me’.

“So the father never wants to lose their child but the child when he grows up needs to stand up and make his own decisions. It’s taken Theo too long now.”

Mahrez for £20m?

14:24: Liverpool should look to sign Leicester star Riyad Mahrez if Philippe Coutinho joins Barcelona this month, says Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson.

When asked if he would take Mahrez if Coutinho went, Thompson said: “Yes.

“I don’t know where he’d get into the side. But you can see him, on his day, he can be a match winner.

“He can but he’s not done it enough and whether that’s because he’s been unhappy there or whatever.

“But this boy’s got tremendous talent, you see the quality that he brings.

“He can take it from A to B very very quickly which relieves pressure at times.

“Yeah he’s a talent, I’d take him for £20million! In my dreams.”

Coutinho getting closer

13:17: Barcelona are reportedly so far advanced with negotiations for Philippe Coutinho that they will conclude the Brazilian's signing from Liverpool in the next few hours.

Last night Catalan newspaper Sport claimed an agreement on Coutinho's price had been reached with Barcelona set to hand over £142m.

And the latest reports from Spain indicate the 25-year-old could leave Liverpool as early as today.

Spanish transfer specialists Don Balon claim "the signing will close in the next few hours".

Sandro blow

11:30: Juventus CEO Beppe Marotta has said there are no transfer negotiations involving Alex Sandro, despite suggestions that Chelsea and Manchester United still want him.

"Juve policy is that should a player ask to leave, we don't keep him. About Alex Sandro, we know about the interest of big clubs for him, but at the moment, we haven't opened negotiations" he told Mediaset.

Both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte have been linked with making a move for the Brazilian.

Coutinho shock

10:05: Philippe Coutinho is so desperate to complete his move from Liverpool to Barcelona that he is willing to pay part of his own transfer fee, shock reports in Spain claim.

Liverpool are playing hardball over his transfer fee and are demanding around €160m (£142m) for his signature, Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo claim.

The Catalan giants are so far willing to put €150m (£133m) on the table, hoping it will be enough to convince Liverpool to do business.

But Mundo Deportivo claim Coutinho has now stepped in to take matters into his own hands and is willing to pay €15m (£13.3m) of his own money to ensure a deal goes through.

Ronaldo blocks transfer

08.50: Cristiano Ronaldo has stopped Real Madrid from pursuing a deal for Inter Milan star Mauro Icardi, according to reports.

The Argentine has been in fine form this season, netting 18 goals in Serie A under Luciano Spalletti.

And Florentino Perez wants the hotshot at the Bernabeu to help Zinedine Zidane's side chase down Barcelona.

Diario Gol say Ronaldo, along with Sergio Ramos, has vetoed a move for Icardi though.

Philippe Coutinho looks set to join Barcelona from Liverpool this month

Coutinho warning

07.25: Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata is so concerned by Philippe Coutinho's move to Barcelona that he's sent a warning to Real Madrid.

That's according to Diario Gol, who say the Spain international is still on good terms with Bernabeu chief Florentino Perez.

Coutinho looks set to join Barcelona this month and Express Sport has brought you reports that a £142m deal has been agreed.

The speculation seems to have caught Morata's eye and he's apparently been in touch with Perez to warn him of the threat Coutinho will offer to Real with Barca.

Mahrez swoop

05.45: Liverpool have made contact to sign Leicester star Riyad Mahrez in the January transfer window, reports claim.

Reports emerged over the week suggesting the Reds had agreed to sell the Brazilian to Barcelona for £142m.

With Coutinho’s impending departure, Klopp is desperate to fill the huge void that will be left behind.

Monaco star Thomas Lemar has been sounded as a potential target, with claims emerging a bid is still being considered, despite Leonardo Jardim insisting his prize asset is not for sale.

And now according to French paper L’Equipe, the Reds have initiated contact over Mahrez.

Shock Chelsea exit

05.30: David Luiz could leave Chelsea on loan this month.

Luiz and Antonio Conte’s relationship has broken down to the point where the Chelsea are ready to send him out until the end of the season.

And Express Sport understands Chelsea could loan him abroad until the summer wit Juventus a potential destination.

Arsenal and Manchester United are both interested in Luiz but the Blues would prefer not to deal with English clubs.

Luiz lost his place in the side after the Champions League games with Roma and has been kept out by rising star Andreas Christensen.

Chelsea completed the signing of Ross Barkley yesterday and are expected to do more business this month.

Coutinho transfer agreed

05.15: Liverpool have reportedly agreed a £142million deal with Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool have always insisted Coutinho will not be leaving despite Barcelona’s determination to snap him up.

However, Catalan newspaper Sport say a fee between the Reds and Barca has now been agreed.

It is said Liverpool will receive a fee of £142million in total with £122m being paid up top.

The player’s agents and lawyers are currently in Catalonia putting the final touches on the player’s contract.

Sport say Liverpool’s representatives are there as well and a deal is now likely to go through in the coming hours.

The Reds also want to make sure they receive £30m in bonus payments during the course of Coutinho’s time at the Nou Camp.

And once that is all ironed out, then Coutinho’s move will supposedly be announced.

United take De Gea risk

05.00: Manchester United star David De Gea could leave for Real Madrid if Jose Mourinho keeps with Sergio Romero for the club’s FA Cup matches.

De Gea came close to joining Real Madrid in 2015 but, after a summer of speculation and a dodgy fax machine later, ended up staying put at Old Trafford.

Despite that, however, talk remains rife that Los Blancos will renew their interest in the Spain international.

De Gea appears to be happy at United for now but, despite blossoming between the sticks, he was replaced by Romero for the FA Cup clash with Derby.

And the Manchester Evening News say the shotstopper could depart if Mourinho sticks to that decision throughout the course of the tournament.

Last season, De Gea had to make do with a place on the bench as the Red Devils won the Europa League.

Even in the biggest game of the campaign - the 2-0 final win over Ajax - Romero was given the nod.

Should United win the FA Cup this season it will mean De Gea will have missed out on two pieces of silverware.

And given his standing as one of the best goalkeepers on the planet, the MEN say he may decide to walk away.
