‘A fraud’ Donald Trump takes swipe at ‘Fire and Fury’ author Michael Wolff

DONALD Trump has hit out at the author of the controversial book ‘Fire and Fury,’ calling its author “a fraud”.

The US President, 71, speaking at a press conference at Camp David said the book by Michael Wolff - ‘Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House’ - was a “work of fiction”.

Donald Trump added: “I think it’s a disgrace.”

Mr Wolff’s book claims a number of Mr Trump’s aides called the President an “idiot,” among other insults.

The book also questioned Mr Trump’s mental state and said that Mr Trump’s staff regard him as a “child”.

Mr Wolff, who was granted unusually wide access to the White House during much of Trump's first year, has said in promoting his book that Trump is unfit for the presidency.

Mr Wolff also claimed in an interview with the BBC’s Today programme that his book could possibly bring down Mr Trump.

He said: He said: “I think one of the interesting effects of the book so far is a very clear ‘emperor has no clothes’ effect.

“That the story that I have told, seems to present this presidency in such a way that it says he can't do his job, the ‘emperor has no clothes’.

“Suddenly everywhere people are going, 'Oh my God, it's true, he has no clothes’.

“That is the background to the perception and the understanding that will finally end this, that will end this presidency.”

President Trump desperately tried to stop the publication of the book and was quick to take to Twitter to criticise its validity.

He wrote: “Michael Wolff is a total loser who made up stories in order to sell this really boring and untruthful book.

“He used Sloppy Steve Bannon, who cried when he got fired and begged for his job. Now Sloppy Steve has been dumped like a dog by almost everyone. Too bad!”

Mr Trump also defended his early morning posts on Twitter claiming he was “really, really smart,” and a “very stable genius,” but saying he went to “the best colleges”.

Mr Trump tweeted: "Actually, throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart.

"I went from VERY successful businessman, to top TV Star… to President of the United States (on my first try). I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius… and a very stable genius at that!"

He said: “I went to the best colleges, or college. I went to — I had a situation where I was a very excellent student, came out and made billions and billions of dollars.

“Became one of the top business people. Went to television and for ten years was a tremendous success, as you probably have heard. Ran for president one time and won.”
