Funeral services for Richard Aubrey Burks, 70, of Brownwood, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8 at the Heartland Funeral Home with Bobby Burks and Mike McGinn officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Richard passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 in Brownwood.

Richard was born on Oct. 14, 1947 in Comanche to Gaylord and Ollie Guill Burks. A graduate of Comanche High School, Richard joined the United States Army on June 7, 1968. He served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on June 4, 1971. He then served one year in the United States Army Reserves. On Sept. 2, 1988 Richard married Glenda Bleeker in Comanche. He had worked for Moorman’s Manufacturing, United States Army Corps and was with Southwest Air and Gas when he retired. After retirement he enjoyed playing music, fishing and hunting. But his favorite of all was spending time with his grandkids.

Richard is survived by his wife, Glenda Burks; his children, Doug Burks and wife Ginger, Sherri Sikes and husband George, Stacy Bleeker and wife Debora and Mindy Thacker and husband Darrell; siblings, Dena Bingham, Amy Burks, Jennifer Wilder, and Bobby Burks; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Brenda Patterson.

Serving as pallbearers will be Colt Scott, Zachary Burks, Ryan Burks, Rickey Patterson, Bryce Patterson, J.D. Russell, Jim Keeney and Colonel Les Davis.
