The Team of Uttarakhand Secretariat won the fourth Shaheed Memorial, T 20 Cricket Tournament organised by the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES).
The event this year was organised in the memory of Havildar Narender Singh Bisht of 4thGarhwal Rifles who laid down his life while fighting the insurgents at ‘Uri sector’ of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2017.
The tournament spanned over a period of two weeks and the final match was played between the teams of ‘Uttarakhand Secretariat’ comprehensively and ‘Uttarakhand Power Sports Group’.
In finals the players of ‘Power sports’ got bowled out 17.4 overs as they managed to reach 139 runs, a target which the team of Secretariat achieved comfortably in just 15.4 Overs at the loss of two wickets only. Ashutosh Vimal of ‘Secretariat’ team was adjudged the ‘Man of the Match’ for taking three wickets and playing an unbeaten knock of 47 runs in the match.
In the ‘Awards Presentation Ceremony’, held in the presence the martyr’s family, the Vice Chancellor (VC) UPES, Deependra Jha paid homage to the martyr Havildar Narender Singh Bisht who lived and died preserving the honor of his country. He presented a Cheque of Rs 1,31000 to the martyr’s wife Usha Bisht.
Jha thanked all members of the teams that participated in the tournament for contributing to the noble cause as he presented awards to finalist teams. He also applauded the grounds-men of UPES cricket field for their excellent work in holding the fortnight long tournament successfully and rewarded them with cash prizes.
The Director Media Affairs, UPES Arun Dhand informed that ten teams participated in the tournament in which umpires Amarjeet Singh, Sunil Chaube and Ganesh provided by the ‘Uttarakhand Cricket Association’ did a commendable job.
He informed that teams from ‘state Secretariat’; ‘Education’, ‘Agriculture’; ‘Irrigation’; ‘Power Sports Group’; ‘Drinking Water’ ‘ONGC’; ‘ IIP’; ‘Army XI’ and the hosts ‘UPES’ participated in the tournament.
