CELTIC hero Chris Sutton says he was once targeted by a Rangers fan behind the wheel of his car.

Sutton moved north of the border after a failed £10m move from Blackburn to Chelsea.

But the striker’s time at Celtic was far more fruitful than his spell in west London.

Soon after signing for £6m in 2000, he scored twice in a 6-2 win for his new team over bitter rivals Rangers.

And it could have been those Old Firm goals which caused a Rangers fan to see the red mist when he spotted Sutton in the street.

“Has a Rangers fan ever confronted me?” Sutton said in an interview with FourFourTwo.

“Yes, I had someone try to run me over, but these things happen… it was good and light-hearted!

“What I like about Glasgow is that people will tell you what they think.

“It’s not always what you want to hear but they’re forthright and upfront.”

During his six years with the Bhoys, Sutton won four league titles, three Scottish Cups and the League Cup.

He also lifted SPFA Players’ Player of the Year prize in 2003/04 after scoring 28 goals.

“I get a bit of stick from Rangers fans,” the controversial pundit continued.

“But most of them end up agreeing with me.

“Like over Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha, although they’ll never admit it…”

Celtic are currently eight points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
