24×7 Electricity Dream Top On Narendra Modi’s Agenda, Sets July Deadline For Power Reforms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stepped in to expedite reforms in the power sector and has set a July deadline to work on Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), which was launched in 2015 with an aim to separate agriculture and non-agriculture feeders, BTVi reported quoting unidentified sources.

The Prime Minister has also asked the power ministry to reduce cross-subsidy surcharge and open access surcharge. The National Electricity Policy lays down that the amount of cross-subsidy surcharge and the additional surcharge to be levied from consumers who are permitted open access should not be so onerous. Narendra Modi also asked the ministry to also look into the direct benefit transfer in the agriculture sector and to ensure the examination of the PPP model. Read More…
