Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho left Saturday’s road game against the Boston Bruins with an apparent leg injury.

Aho, the Canes’ leading scorer this season with 33 points, was injured with 1:35 left in the first period of the Canes’ 7-1 loss. While battling the Bruins’ Riley Nash for a puck along the boards, Aho and Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller got their legs tangled and Aho awkwardly fell backward.

Aho slowly skated to the Canes bench, favoring his right leg, and did not return to the game.

Canes coach Bill Peters said Aho would be evaluated by team doctors in Raleigh on Sunday.

Aho has been playing his best hockey of the season, carrying a career-best six-game point streak into the game in Boston. Aho’s 10 points — six goals, four assists- since Dec. 23 ranked first in the NHL and included game-winning goals in consecutive games.

The Canes, who entered the game holding the Eastern Conference’s second wild-card playoff spot, have been relatively injury-free this season. One exception has been veteran forward Lee Stempnak, who has missed the first 41 games with an unspecified injury but recently rejoined team practices and may soon be activated off injured reserve.
