MOUNDRIDGE -- With a record of 3-4, the Moundridge High School girls basketball team fell to Berean Academy 25-43 in their first home game of the new year on Friday night.

The Wildcats could not get away from the aggressive Warriors. They started the game off close but trailed Berean at the end of the first quarter, 7-10.

The leading scorers for the Wildcats were freshman Kourtney Kaufman, junior Ellen Durst, and senior Bethany Stucky, with six points each.

Durst made an early 3-pointer to tie the game at 4-4 in the first quarter, but Berean led the rest of the way from there.

“We definitely didn’t take care of the ball as well as we need too,” head coach Brian Holloway said. “Although, I do feel like we did a better job of taking care of the ball than usual.”

Kaufman made a pair of 3’s in the fourth quarter, pulling the Cats within eleven.

Senior Ashtyn Wiebe led the Berean Warriors with twelve points.

“We got to get better on offense. They did a better job of taking us and making us do what we don't want to do. Berean does a good job on offense, they are a really solid team. When they made shots it was tough on us to recover because their defense is just so good,” Holloway said.

The Lady Cats will look to improve their record when they host Ell-Saline at home on Tuesday and travel to Sedgwick next Friday.
