The Green Wave beat Cohasset, 65-58, on Friday night.
ABINGTON – It was fitting that a contest between two South Shore League foes ended up going down to the wire.
Abington’s 11-4 run in overtime was enough to pick up a South Shore League boys basketball victory against Cohasset on Friday night, 65-58.
Entering the extra frame tied at 54, Cohasset only managed to score four points in OT.
The Green Wave (3-3, 2-2) started out the fourth quarter hitting three consecutive shots from beyond the arc, but the Skippers stayed calm, cool and collected. Their ability to move the ball in Abington’s 2-3 zone allowed them to keep pace and bring the game into the extra period.
Abington was led by Bryson Andrews (20 points), who hurt the Skippers from outside by hitting three 3-pointers as well as penetrating the zone for buckets in the paint.
Jack Maguire added 13 points for the Green Wave, and Jarae Cole had seven points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Cam Curney chipped in his first career varsity points.
Cohasset (5-3, 3-1) was carried by Max Davis (15 points, eight rebounds), Thatcher Stone (13 points) and Tommy Carrabas (12 points).
While both teams were rather tentative in the first quarter, with Cohasset leading 9-8, each became aggressive in its own way in the second frame.
Cohasset moved the ball effectively in the Green Wave’s 2-3 zone, as it fueled a 14-3 run to give the visitors a 24-13 advantage midway in the second quarter.
Just as it seemed like Cohasset was taking control, Abington’s athleticism in transition sparked an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 24-22 at the break.
