It will be unlike anything Sioux Falls has ever seen before.
On Saturday, the first businesses are opening in the new Jones421 building in downtown Sioux Falls.
As soon as you walk in the door, you know the downtown development is different. Around a dozen retailers will call this place home eventually. It's one floor packed full of different businesses.
"The entertainment value of this place is off the charts," Game Chest Owner Amanda Wermers said.
This weekend, three of those businesses will open: Swamp Daddy's Cajun Kitchen, Game Chest and The Source, which used to be known as Black Sheep Coffee.
"You come get a beverage from me whether it's coffee, beer or wine and get a game from Game Chest and food from Swamp Daddy's and really utilize any of the seating," The Source Owner Kristin Chau said.
In addition to businesses, there will also be space to simply sit and hang out. It's called a marketplace concept.
"I really like it because our customers, if they want to get some food, while we're cooking it, they can walk around the building and check out some of the other shops," Swamp Daddy's Cajun Kitchen Owner Del'Inkka Beaudion said.
While this is a new concept for Sioux Falls, it's a big trend in bigger cities. You'll find a bunch of retailers sharing space in one large building.
"Denver has a ton of pop-up spaces like this. It's something I thought would go well in Sioux Falls," Chau said.
A unique Sioux Falls building that hopes to win the retail game.
"This is a marketplace, a place to come together and have a community. I think that's going to really show," Wermers said.
In addition to the three businesses that are opening on Saturday, four others have also signed up for the development.
They include a florist, a massage therapist, a gelato shop and another restaurant.
There's around 5,000 square feet still available.
The developer says she's especially looking for a bakery.
