It's Young Sheldon in a '90s world!
The Big Bang Theoryspin-off has been renewed for a second season, CBS announced Saturday during the Television Critics Association winter press tour.
Young Sheldon's early pickup is no surprise. It's the #1 new comedy in viewers (16.2 million) and ratings among adults 18-49 (3.3) and 25-54 (4.9), and the #2 comedy in all of television, behind only The Big Bang Theory.
The series stars Iain Armitage as the 9-year-old boy genius version of Big Bang's Sheldon Cooper, with narration provided by Jim Parsons as grown-up Sheldon. Zoe Perry plays Sheldon's mother Mary, a role originated on The Big Bang Theory by Perry's real-life mother Laurie Metcalf. Lance Barber is his father George Sr.

Season 1 is set in the 1989-90 school year -- Sheldon's freshman year of high school -- so Season 2 will presumably take place in 1990-91 and the fashions will start to change from '80s to '90s. Maybe George Jr. (Montana Jordan) will discover grunge and start dressing like Kurt Cobain.
Young Sheldon airs Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c.
(Full disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS.)
