(MENAFN) BuzzFeed News cited an analysis for cybersecurity firm McAfee warning that hackers have attempted to target computers of South Koreans participating in the Winter Olympics that is to be held in Pyeongchang.
The report said the hacking was attempted through an email sent to the email address icehockey@pyeongchang2018.com as "enable content" would pop which allows Microsoft Word to run macros, a major signal that a file is malicious.
The email address seemed to have surfaced from the National Counter-Terrorism Council of South Korea, however it was spoofed.
According to the report, possible suspects for the attempted hack include North Korea, China and Russia, even though the motive of the violation is yet to be clear.
