Former Eagle Jon Dorenbos is coming back to Philadelphia, but it will only be for one night.
The America’s Got Talent finalist will perform “An Evening With Jon Dorenbos” at Sugarhouse Casino on Friday, March 16. The show will give fans a more intimate look at the longtime Eagles long snapper’s life story, as well as some of the magic tricks that put Dorenbos on the map as a performer. His run on America’s Got Talent started in the fall of 2016, and ultimately earned third place in the competition that year as a result of his penchant for magic.
As Dorenbos has discussed before, his interest in magic stems from a difficult childhood during which his father murdered his mother. Magic, for the future football star, was a way to get through that dark period, and he became enamored with it at around age 12.
Years later, Dorenbos would find himself in the NFL, where he played 11 of his 14 years in the league as a Philadelphia Eagle. He was traded to the New Orleans Saints in August last year, after which a team doctor diagnosed Dorenbos with an aortic aneurysm. The team released him the day after the diagnosis.
Dorenbos has since had open heart surgery to correct the issue, undergoing the procedure at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in November last year, and indicated he was doing well.
“[My aorta] was expanding like a water balloon … Mine was the size of a Coke can,” Dorenbos said. “They basically told me, ‘Had you been hit in the chest on Monday Night Football, the odds were far greater that you would die than live.’”
Tickets for Dorenbos’ upcoming Sugarhouse show are on sale now, and range from $45 to $65.
