Commuters waiting at a downtown bus stop in Elizabeth found a man's body lying on the ground Friday morning, the day after punishing cold and a blizzard pummeled the area, police said.
Residents waiting for a bus near East Jersey and Broad Street discovered the body in the snow at 7:23 a.m. and flagged down a police patrol car, police said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim is in his 50s, and no foul play is suspect, police said.
Police had no further information Friday morning about his identity. Officials said his death is possibly weather related, but that the investigation into the cause is continuing.
Temperature in Elizabeth dropped to 9 degrees Thursday night and wind chills were below zero.
On Thursday morning, Michael Fleming, 57, was found dead in the snow outside of Charlie's Liquor Store in Vineland. Police attributed his death to Thursday's blizzard, the arctic temperatures and his likely homelessness.
