MACOMB, Ill. — South Dakota opened the second half with a 15-point run and coasted by Western Illinois, 82-58, in a Summit League women's basketball game at Western Hall Thursday night.
Both teams shot above 40 percent, but the Coyotes took 18 more shots than WIU and that proved to be the difference.
Western Illinois had three players in double figures with Morgan Blumer leading the attack with 14 points and eight rebounds. Emily Clemens added 13 points and six assists while Taylor Higginbotham finished with 12 points and two rebounds. Olivia Braun tallied seven points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
South Dakota out-rebounded the Leathernecks 40-29.
Western Illinois (11-5, 1-1) returns to Western Hall Saturday, hosting Oral Roberts at 4:30 p.m. South Dakota is 11-5 (3-0)
