Man whose body found on frozen Rock River identified

ROCKFORD — Brent Decker, 41, of Rockford has been identified as the man whose body was found on the frozen Rock River near the Whitman Street bridge Wednesday morning.

The Winnebago County Coroner Office is still investigating, though an autopsy has been completed.

Coroner Bill Hintz has said it cannot yet be determined how long the man may have been out there. There were no signs of gunshot or stab wounds, he said.

Rockford Park District workers who were salting the bike path saw the body and called for help.

Rockford police are investigating.
