Karen E. Messer, 73, of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, January 03, 2018 in Mt. Pleasant.

Services are 10:30 AM Monday at the Kimzey Funeral Home. Pastor Jeffrey A. McPheron will officiate. Burial will be in the White Oak Cemetery, rural Mt. Pleasant. Visitation is 2–9 PM on Sunday with family present 3-5 PM.

Karen Esther Young Messer was born February 13, 1944, the daughter of Robert and Mildred A. Young. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1962. On August 6, 1962, Karen married Dean William Messer.

Karen assisted her husband on the farm, enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, sheep and lambs. Karen enjoyed her monthly Breakfast Club.

Survivors include her husband, Dean of Mt. Pleasant; 2 children – Laura (Duane) Burden of Columbus Junction and Mark (Vicki) Messer of Mt. Pleasant; a brother – Richard (Mary Beth) Young of Mt. Pleasant; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Her parents precede Karen in death.
