A Brownwood man was indicted on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a May 3 hit-and-run accident.
Brownwood police believed Detrick Henry, 33, intentionally caused a wreck on the Austin Avenue overpass, police said earlier.
Henry is accused by indictment of “intentionally, knowingly or recklessly” injuring three occupants of a vehicle by driving his vehicle into theirs.
Henry, who had two pending DWI cases at the time of the wreck, was arrested for DWI after the hit-and-run wreck, police said.
Officer Ian Baker was dispatched to the accident scene, where a 2000 Cadillac had been struck from behind by a 1997 Chevrolet Astro van. Cpl. Brandon Johnson stopped the suspect vehicle in the 600 block of Avenue C after seeing the driver throw a beer bottle out the window.
The Cadillac driver told police she was driving on Main Street near the Main Street Car Wash and the van was traveling behind her. The Cadillac was about two car lengths ahead of the van when the Cadillac driver changed lanes and turned south onto Austin Avenue.
The van driver tried to swerve into her lane multiple times, and the woman slowed down on the overpass to try to let the van pass. The van pulled into the parking lot of the Valero store at the bottom of the overpass, and when the Cadillac passed the store, the van pulled out from the parking lot, accelerated and struck the Cadillac in the rear bumper, the Cadillac driver told police.
In an unrelated case, Derrick Mackey, 22, was indicted for burglary of a habitation in connection with an April break-in.
Early police Sgt. Steve Means followed a trail of ashes in the 100 block of Orchard Drive that led from the site of a stolen fire pit to an apartment door, where police obtained a search warrant and recovered other stolen items, police said earlier.
The complainant told police he woke up around 4:30 a.m. to find an open back door, and figured he must not have shut it properly.
The complainant got up later and realized several items were missing including food, two cases of water and Gatorade, Xbox controllers and games, shoes, sunglasses, a vacuum cleaner and a fire pit from the back porch, police said.
