Bullpups send seniors off with big win over Circle

To say Senior Night was a success for the McPherson High School wrestling team would be an understatement.

Five seniors — Bailey Yarborough, Donavon Bailey, Ian Alumbaugh, Luke Thompson and Brynton Crews — were recognized for their contributions to the wrestling program before Thursday night’s dual against Circle.

The seniors’ final home dual was a complete success, as the Bulpups picked up a decisive league win, 68-6. McPherson is now 11-1 in dual matches and 2-0 in league play. McPherson won 12 of the 13 matches while scoring the maximum six points in nine of those matches. The Bullpups also recorded six wins by fall and another win by technical fall. Rhett Edmonson at 120 pounds and Scott Radke at 152 pounds picked up wins to stay undefeated on the year. Edmonson is ranked second and Radke is ranked third in 4A in their respective weight classes. McPherson High School also honored longtime MAC wrestling coach Lance Engel, who has given back to the McPherson wrestling community over the last three decades. MAC wrestling has served as the feeder program for the last three decades for the high school and middle school programs. Engel has coached McPherson High School and McPherson Middle School in his reputable career. The Bullpups are back in action on Saturday when they take part in the Burlington Invitational. There will be a draw for both the boys and girls varsity teams.
