Berkley residents will have a chance to weigh in on a proposed residential development project Tuesday at City Hall.

The city’s Planning Commission is conducting a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. on a developer’s plan to build apartments and townhouses at the former LaSalette school property on Coolidge Highway.

There was some controversy when the development project was first unveiled last year, but there have been revisions to the plan since then based on feedback from residents on city officials.

“I am hoping that we can continue to receive productive and constructive feedback from the public on this proposal,” said City Manager Matt Baumgarten in a statement. “

He said the project has undergone a number of reviews, including a complete revision of the site plan since it was introduced last year.

The project is proposed at the corner of Coolidge Highway and Oxford Street.

It will be up to members of the Planning Commission to make a recommendation to the City Council on whether the project should go forward, with council members having the final vote on the issue.

Notices about the public hearing have been mailed to property owners within 300 feet of the proposed project.

Comments can be made at Tuesday’s hearing or submitted in writing to the Building Department before the hearing, city officials said.

Plans for the project are available online at berkleymich.org or at the Building Department inside City Hall at 3338 Coolidge.
