KINGSTON — Police and fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that blazed through a Kingston barn Thursday night. The structure does not have electricity and is used for storage, a neighbor said.

Multiple fire departments responded just after 6:20 p.m. Thursday to 7740 Cherry Valley Road in Kingston after a passerby noticed smoke and flames coming from a barn on the property and called 911, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

No one was present on the property during the incident, and no one was injured. The Sheriff's Office and Kirkland Fire Department continue to investigate the fire's cause, according to the release.

DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said an estimated cost of the damage the fire caused was not yet available Friday morning.

Ashley Frillman said she lives down the road from the "machine shed," which is not occupied but is rented out for storage. There is no electricity on the property, Frillman said.

Members of the Kirkland Fire Department, Genoa-Kingston Fire Protection District, Cherry Valley Fire Protection District and Boone County Fire Protection District responded to the blaze.
