Keeping the pressure on Pakistan, the White House is expected to announce a set of specific actions that it expects Islamabad to take in terms of cracking down on terrorist safe havens.
“In terms of specific actions, I think you’ll see some more details come out on that in the next 24 to 48 hours,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders had told reporters on Tuesday, adding, “They can do more to stop terrorism and we want them to do that.”
Apart from the White House, National Security Council’s confirmation that the Trump administration will withhold $255 million in military aid, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley has held out the possibility of President Trump putting a stop to
all aid if Islamabad does not mend its ways.
The State Department has commented that Pakistan needs to earn the money it gets from Washington, with spokesperson Heather Nauert saying, “They (Pakistan) need to better earn, essentially, the money that we have provided in the past in foreign military assistance, they need to show that they are sincere in their efforts to crack down on terrorists.”
