January 2, 1918 - December 23, 2017
Elma “Adell” Davis, 99, a resident of the Forest Grove community passed away peacefully Saturday, December 23, 2017, ten days short of her 100th birthday.
Adell was born on January 2, 1918 at Fort Stevens, Oregon. She was one of six children born to Maj. Kenna and Ada (Murphy) Gandee. During her younger years, Adell’s family moved frequently to suit the needs of her father’s military career. They relocated from Chicago and settled in Ashland in 1924. In 1937, she graduated high school, and shortly thereafter met her husband, Hal Davis, through his twin brother, John. On August 28, 1939, at the age of 21, she married Hal in Crescent City, California. During World War II, Adell lived in San Francisco, where she worked in a shipyard while Hal served in the Army in Europe. After the war, they eventually relocated to Klamath Falls. Hal died in February of 1987.
From a very young age, Adell was an active woman. She loved listening to music, reading, camping, hunting, and fishing. Throughout her life she was involved in Girl Scouts, PTA and the Carpenters Union Ladies Auxillary. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and other relaxing hobbies such as writing letters, puzzles, crosswords, and cards. During her time in Forest Grove, she especially enjoyed drives in the country looking for birds and animals.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, and her five brothers. She is survived by her daughter and spouse, Charlene and Bergh Bechen of Banks, Ore.; grandson, Justin Bechen and his wife, Amanda Klimczak, of Riverside, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
At Adell’s request, no services are to be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to Friend of Pets of the Klamath Basin.
