The Glenn Miller Orchestra In The Mood At The Dome
Andrew Liddle, Features Writer
Having sold out in Hull, the world’s most famous swing band, under the direction of Ray McVay, is coming to Doncaster’s Dome, on Saturday 13th January, at 7.30pm.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra, augmented by the fabulous close harmonies of the Moonlight Serenaders and the smooth vocals of Catherine Sykes and Mark Porter, is set to transport people of all ages back to the heady days of the 1940s, when music was hot and sophisticated, exciting and inspiring. It had to be with the war to end all wars raging.

Fans of the Andrew Sisters, the most popular singing group of the age, are in for a treat when the Polka Dot Dolls start swinging out their big hits. For good measure, the Swing Time Jivers will bring along their dancing shoes to Lindy Hop, Jive and Jitterbug around the stage, full of energy and zest for life.

Back in the 1940s Glenn Miller, with hits like In the Mood, A String of Pearls, Tuxedo Junction and, not least, Chatanooga Choo-Choo, the first gold disc in pop history, fronted the most popular swing band on both sides of the Atlantic. Amazingly, it’s still going strong thanks to the vision and determination of Ray McVay who has been leading the British version of the band for almost half a lifetime now, having been motivated back in the late-1980s by a desire to get much closer to the unique sound than others were doing.

By using authentic orchestrations and handpicked musicians, he succeeded brilliantly, and thirty years later he’s still touring, appealing to an ever-wider audience as young generations awaken to the appeal of foot-tapping rhythm and thrilling harmony, played with full-bodied ease by a sophisticated orchestra, the Glenn Miller way.

Tickets are available on-line or can be booked on 01302 537704 or 01302 538584.
